Joaquin Phoenix, most famously known for his role in the film Joker, was lauded for his stellar performance in the film and he snagged the award for the Best Actor for Joker at Golden Globes 2020. Having received the prestigious award, it was his speech that left his fans amused. Phoenix gave a dramatic acceptance speech with several expletives that grabbed everyone’s attention.  In his speech, he also addressed climate change, leaving people in awe of him. Now, just days after his win, Joaquin Phoenix was arrested at a climate change protest.

PEOPLE confirmed that Phoenix was arrested on Friday in Washington DC at the climate change protest. According to the report, he was joined in this Fire Drill Fridays protest by other activists as well as actors such as, Martin Sheen and Jane Fonda. As per the report, the U.S Capitol Police informed that a total of 147 people were arrested, for “crowding,” “obstructing” or “incommoding.” Fire Drill Fridays spokesman Ira Arlook said that Phoenix and Martin Sheen were among those arrested, however, they were both released quickly. Joaquin Phoenix, after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role in Joker, gave a speech in which he also talked about how Hollywood can help in the fight against climate change. He had said in his speech, “It’s really nice that so many people have sent their well wishes to Australia but we have to do more than that. Hopefully, we can be unified and actually make some changes. It’s great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives.”
